As many of you loyal readers (hey mom) know I am a big wuss when it comes to leaving my children. To the point where it almost disables me. This year however, Ive been thinking about the fact that Kyle and I havnt spent much time just the two of us due to the kids and when have gotten away has usually been with friends. So, we decided to just get away. This past weekend we went to Kansas City (I could only get myself to do a drive and a weekend away...lets not get crazy people I wasnt going to face two fears in one weekend...flying was out of the question). So I woke up Friday morning with just about the worse face pain and headache I have had in a long time...the stress from work and planning the trip had clearly finally won. I wasnt going to let this ruin my trip though, I called the Dr and got in just in time to leave for our 12 oclock departure. Sinus infection...yuck, I took my prescriptions and was on my way. We headed to walgreens to pick up my drug concoction and dropped the kids off. As soon as we hit the highway I reached to the cooler for my 20 oz diet caffeine free pepsi and swallowed my omnicef, two sudafed, and two extra strength tylenol. 30 minutes later I was feeling some relief (and also a slight euphoria...which I did not enjoy) and thought to myself modern drugs are an amazing fix. This is a big statement for someone who rarely takes pills and is a firm believer in not mixing drugs and big nights (the proof on my theory happened at Kyles prom - AKA our first date, where I hung out in the bathroom all night puking from a pain pill I took for tonsilitis). Lets just say I have a weak stomach and traditionally this concoction would not sit well...but for some reason it worked great! We stepped up to the counter to check in at the Marriot (side note I put $60 in on priceline and got the room...holler for deals!) and the man asks what we were in town for - and I excitedly said its our 5 year anniversary...yeah Ive watched movies I was hoping to hear the word...upgrade. He made all my dreams come true, its like the stars were aligning. He said well in that case were going to put you in the corner suites overlooking the plaza. And I ofcourse said, in my pretend shocked voice, why thank you very much you didnt have to do that. He said, "Mr. and Mrs. Anderson (everytime we called thereafter we were called either Mr Anderson or Mrs Anderson - it was cute), do you have reservations for dinner tonight", and when I told him that we had reservations at M&S Grill he politly handed a free appetizer card over to us, and I nearly pee'd my pants...was this really happening. Clearly I dont get out much. Next we mosied on up to our room in the 11th floor suite, and it was beautiful (pictures will follow). We layed down for a bit (hey we were on vacation and havnt taken a uniterupted nap in 4 years :)!) and then woke up and got ready for dinner. When we got to dinner we sat down and opened our menus...and printed inside was HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSARY, its amazing how everywhere treats you like royalty. After dinner we walked down to the river walk where we took a gondala ride - which was a little old school and played some interesting italian music...but was romantic nonetheless. Kyle was given a rose to give to me, which was a little cheesy...no it was a lot cheesy and we laughed pretty hard about it. After the ride we walked down the river walk and back to the hotel (which seemed a lot easier when it was downhill but all the way uphill - while super congested was just a joke...but we made it :)!) We finished the night out with an hour in the hottub/pool and sundeck (or star deck at that time of night). I then recieved the best gift I have ever gotten from Kyle. A typed page of reasons he loved me...40 to be exact...not sure where the number 40 came from...but thats what I love about Kyle - hes super random. This page was numbered 1-40 and was titled 40 reasons I love you...so this was no accident. Ill only name a few that cracked me up...number 33 - "your smart" number 34 "your a smart ass". Gotta love him. Number 40 "you put up with all my crap", amazed he finally noticed :)! Ill leave you with that little preview, coming from Kyle this meant a lot to me...hes not exactly the most romantic person I have ever met, but he really put thought into this and it really touched me.
The next day started out with a walk down to the plaza for some breakfast and shopping. Somehow I woke up feeling almost 100% that antibiotic was no joke. Thank goodness for that. After breakfast we headed to our couples massage (Kyles first massage), it was amazing for the both of us...although Kyle said he felt like he got his butt kicked because his therapist was taking the term "firm pressure" a little too far. He peed bright yellow for the next day...apparantly he had a lot of toxins to remove. Then it poured. We ordered Jimmy Johns in while we waiting for the rain to pass. This of course was after we headed down to the main street cafe in the hotel and got way more information about Missouri that we could have ever wanted...after that verbal abuse we decided to ditch that restaurant for some home cooked Jimmy johns :)! Once the rain finally passed we headed to our next destination Oceans of Fun. We had a lot of fun there, a lot of unexpected dips in the water after slides and a lot of laughs when this happened. A few laughs at my expense occured when I flipped off my raft in the lazy river (not exactly sure how this happened) and when I thought the stairs to get out of the pool was actually a ramp...Im sure you can imagine how that might have looked...not good thats for sure. After Oceans of fun was more shopping, eating, icecream and people watching and then back to relaxing.
Sunday was the drive home. Nothing too exciting here, it rained a little...I panicked (of course) and then things were back to normal. I survived a weekend without my kids, I enjoyed our time very much...and it was a little taste of what our life was before kids. I loved it a lot, but I realized something. I love being a mom even more. Every now and then its nice to have time to yourself, but at the end of the day nothing feels better then your child in your arms. Camdyn and Cade were happy to see us. They both appeared older and cuter :)! Cade learned a lot this weekend - he started walking like crazy, he learned how to high five and he now says mamma, dadda and ball (big shock there). Camdyn was her cute self - and was attached my hip the rest of the evening. More on the kids in another post.
